A lot of people don’t think us delivery drivers develop relationships with our customers, most think we are just professional “ring and run” or “ditch and runners”. Truly we try to get to know everyone on our routes… not just for the convenience of entering a name in for customer contacts, but also it’s just nice to know who we can share a joke with or who will possibly help us if we have an emergency on route… but we also develop work friendships with some. My route, although most despise it because of the size and how complicated it can be, was my first choice of routes to cover back when I was just a coverage driver. Three years ago I took it over as MY route. There has always been a golden Shepard that would follow the ups driver down the street for blocks if need be to get a milk bone. It’s because of her, Daisy, that I started carrying milk bones even when I was a cover driver and didn’t know what route I’d be on every day. Fast forward. After I got this route, Daisy and I became closer and so did her owners and I. Last Christmas, the gave me a bottle of black label Jameson because they said it was because Daisy ate so many milk bones. About 5 months ago management took a clump of neighborhoods off my route and sent me farther west. With Christmas peak season starting I finally got back my original work and with it Daisy and her family, unfortunately tonight I found out that Bob, her owner that gave me the bottle of Jameson passed away back in August… yes I may have only talked to him 2-10 minutes a day and maybe only 1 or 2 times a week, but after I got the news today… it was really hard to focus on the remaining 70 stops I had at the time… I got through it, because as management tells us every day we are professionals, but… Bob cheers to you… you are missed #deliverylife #cardboardwarriors
